Honduras & Guatemala

I recently got to treat my travel bug in Honduras and Guatemala. On our quick 2 week trip south we started on Utila island off the Caribbean side of Honduras. Utila is known for scuba diving so much of my time was spent under water. When on dry land we soaked in the sun, the clear water and local vibe. Here are my favorite shots from the island:

Our next adventure was at Lago Atitlan in Guatemala. This huge beautiful lake is rimmed by three sleeping volcanoes. The temperature was perfect and the people were kind and welcoming. We spent a night in San Pedro la Laguna, one of the small Mayan towns on the edge of the lake. Great light and nice people made it our favorite spot.

Taken in Antigua on the way to the lago.
When I asked this sweet lady if I could take her picture she took off her apron, laid it on the step and took a poised seat. Smiling her toothless grin, she talked our ears off while I shot away. I still have no idea what she was saying, but she was fabulous.

My time in Honduras and Guatemala was way too short- just a taste of two delicious countries. I hope to return and spend more time exploring. For now I suppose I'm satisfied...

Stuck in LA

On my way to Guatemala last month a volcano erupted, leaving me stranded in Los Angeles. But as with all good accidents, I got some good shots out of it. Just another sunny day at Venice Beach soaking up the skateboard culture:

Sailing Update

Boat life has been an adventure. Last week was our first Duck Dodge. Duck Dodge is a sailing race around Lake Union that happens every Tuesday evening in the summer. Out came the sun as did a lot of boats. Ty was on the jib sheet and I was the photographer. We sailed around the lake, barely missing other boats, watching collisions and having fun. After the race we 'rafted up' in the middle of the lake. It was a party like I'd never experienced floating out there in the dark. Here are my favorite pics.

Lucille

While home for a visit I took my nanny's portrait. Grandma Lucille Stone turned 91 in March and is the sweetest southern belle in Spokane. Although she has dementia and is often confused, she always knows who I am. I think you can see her dementia in this series of photos - one minute she's right there with you and the next she's not. You can also see her kindness.

Her loyal cat Sheba.

Sailboat Adventure Begins

For the next 3 months my boyfriend Ty and I will be renting a live-abord sailboat. It's our chance to find out if we're 'boat people'. So far we've spent 2 nights on the 30 ft boat, both completely different from each other. The first was stormy. The wind howled, things creaked, groaned, flapped, swayed and the rain pounded louder than I've ever heard. I felt like I was camping- not wanting to get out of the 'tent' to head down the dock to the washroom. It was a rocky night, not full of sleep, but full of adventure. The next night the water was glassy and the only sound was the snoring dog. We got to go out sailing on Lake Union with the captain and crew that evening. We circled the lake enjoying the weather and being on the water. So aside from some mold problems reeking havoc on my allergies, it's been smooth sailing. I'm going to try to document it as we go along so stay tuned.

Check out my new stamp logo!

I'm really excited about my new logo. Old travel stamps were my inspiration so I had a custom stamp made. Check out this stop motion video of it in action!

Spring Fun

A street lined with cherry blossoms inspired me to get out and shoot. So I grabbed my friend Dylan and dressed him up. A newsy clicking his heels was the story and we took it from there. He was great at the 'right ol' chap!' expressions, which were classic.

If anyone out there wants to be a model and have fun with the camera let me know!
