Frosted

On my drive home to Spokane for Christmas the entire state east of the Snoqualmie pass was covered in frost. It made up for the lack of snow and was very beautiful. Here are some shots taken near George, Washington.

A Special Have A Heart for Kids Day

This year The Children's Alliance's Have a Heart for Kids Day came early because of the special session in Olympia. Hundreds of kids, parents and advocates rallied on the capitol steps and delivered a Proclamation by the Children of Washington to legislators. This years slogan was 'Protect my Future". I was there to document it and here are my favorite shots:

Girls Rock(!) Camp

I recently volunteered to photograph a day at Rain City Rock Camp for Girls and it was a lot of fun. The week long camp is the only music these high school kids get exposed to due to cutting back on music programs. In one week girls who've never played an instrument before, pick one, learn to play it, form a band and perform a song. They were all amazing and it was really fun to observe. Here are my favorite shots:

I ♥ Edison, Washington

Last weekend my mom and I spent the weekend up on Samish Island which is West of the Skagit Valley. On our way we stopped in Edison and I fell in love. Edison is the cutest one block town with multiple art galleries, unique shops, the local Breadfarm, a wine and cheese shop called Slough food and Tweets, a local organic cafe. This adorable but authentic town is just off of Chuckanut drive so after getting fresh crab from Taylor Shellfish on the Sound and grabbing some veggies from a farm stand we headed into Edison for the rest of our meal. We found a bottle of red wine and some local goat cheese as well as some yummy crackers and cookies. It made for the perfect meal to eat next to the fire that rainy October night. The next morning we couldn't wait to get brunch at Tweets. The verde frittata was delicious and I loved the bowl of hazelnuts on the table available for anyone willing to crack them open. The staff was very friendly and we really enjoyed our leisurely morning. I can't wait to go back!

Flying over Spokane

My uncle Joe owns a photography company in Spokane (www.nuessphotography.com) and does aerial photography. Last time I was home he kindly offered to take me up on a flight. So we took off and flew all around the Spokane area for about an hour. It was pretty awesome and here are my shots:

Doe Bay Fest Fashion

There are many ways to try and capture the magic of Doe Bay Fest. In an effort to narrow it down to one aspect of the weekend I took inspiration from the Sartorialist blog and photographed some of the amazing 'fest' fashion. At one point I questioned this documentation- was it not really what Doe Bay is about? Doe Bay is about celebrating music and enjoying each other, not about fashion. But then I realized that Doe Bay is also about self expression and clothing is one of the biggest ways we express ourselves. So here are just a few of the creative looks I noticed over the incredible weekend. Let me know if you're featured and want a copy. :)
